 Course Description

Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit

If you’re new to the world of domestic retrofit, this course will give you a comprehensive and easy to follow introduction to whole-house retrofit.

If you have some experience of energy efficiency projects already, it will build your knowledge to give you the bigger picture of domestic retrofit.

Learners will gain an understanding of what domestic retrofit is, what it is supposed to achieve, what you need to know when working in the industry, and what to look out for when installing energy efficiency measures in homes.

This qualification can be viewed as an industry gateway, it is designed for learners who either want to work in the retrofit section of the construction industry or who are already working in the construction industry and want to move into retrofit activities. The qualification is useful for those in trades where retrofit is directly applicable for example, plasterer, heat pump installer or solar panel installer or as an introduction for those wishing to pursue a career in domestic retrofit advice or co-ordination.

How long does it take: The course may take around 36 hours to complete, this includes the learning and assessment.

To help you with your eLearning, there are self-tests within each module to help check your understanding as you go. Following your eLearning, you will attend a one-day tutor-led session via MS Teams. It is essential that you complete the eLearning before attending this session. This tutor-led day will conclude with a remotely invigilated end-of-course exam.

How am I assessed: The qualification is assessed via an online multiple-choice exam. This formal exam is remotely-invigilated by a representative from The Retrofit Academy training team and the Awarding Body (AIM).

What are the entry requirements: There no specific eligibility requirements, although It is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy skills or Grade 4/C GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent. If you have a background in energy efficiency or construction you may find the course a little easier.

In order to access the eLearning materials and take the online exam you must have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection.
