Study Overview
This study programme is designed for 16-18-year-old learners who have faced challenges during secondary education and are not yet ready for a Level 1 programme.
This course is integrated into the wider study programme which includes English, Maths, Life Skills and another short qualification. The course provides a broad curriculum and helps develop study skills and future career ideas.
Upon successful completion of this study programme, learners will achieve the NOCN E3 Certificate in Preparing for Employment or Further Learning in Construction and will complete units in a range of trades.
Units covered include:
An Introduction to Health and Safety in Construction An Introduction to Carpentry and Joinery
An Introduction to Painting and Decorating An Introduction to Bricklaying
Learners will also achieve units on Preparing for Further Learning or Employment and Preparing for an Interview, as well as undertaking activities such as teamwork and problem-solving. All units develop essential knowledge, skills and behaviours that employers look for.
Progression and Employment Opportunities
After successfully completing this Construction Multi Skills and Retrofit programme, learners may be able to progress onto a Level 1 study programme, providing they meet the appropriate English and Maths entry criteria.
Additional Qualifications Studied
At Chelmsford College, we are dedicated to helping all our learners achieve their ambitions. We acknowledge that some of our learners may need extra support in English and/or maths to do well.
We provide specialist teaching as a compulsory part of the study programme for all learners who have not achieved a grade 4 at GCSE in these subjects.
We also collaborate with stakeholders, including CITB and Quantum, to enhance our construction programmes based on their feedback. This has led to the addition of the Understanding Domestic Retrofit Award to align with industry needs.
Entry Requirements:
No formal entry requirements. All applicants will be assessed with an interview to ensure they are enrolled on the relevant level of course to meet their individual learning needs. Applicants may need to complete an English and maths assessment.
