Retrofit Level 2 near Abingdon
Domestic retrofit is the process of upgrading our homes to make them more energy efficient, reducing carbon emissions and creating homes that are healthier and cheaper to live in. This flexible eLearning course will give you a comprehensive and easy to follow introduction to whole-house retrofit.
Abingdon & Witney College is the registered provider for The Retrofit Academy CIC Oxon & Bucks. If you have some experience of energy efficiency projects already, this course will build your knowledge to give you the bigger picture of domestic retrofit. The course is designed to improve the employability of learners as well as lay a foundation for higher level training.
Employers are increasingly seeking staff who understand the fundamentals of retrofitting our homes. The Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit is a flexible eLearning course, with tutor support, that you can study at your own pace. The course contains six modules which take around 21 to 28 hours to complete. Once enrolled, you will have a 12-week window to finish the programme.
Course units
1. Introduction to Domestic Retrofit – Busting all the jargon, introducing key concepts like Fabric First and Whole House Retrofit.
2. Domestic Retrofit Information – Getting to grips with the different types of information and documents used in retrofit projects.
3. Health & Safety – Understanding the current legislation relating to domestic retrofit, how to respond to and report emergencies and workplace accidents and how to identify and report risks and hazards.
4. Domestic Retrofit Materials – Becoming familiar with the types of materials and systems used in domestic retrofit projects and how to ensure they are up to standard.
5. Retrofit Processes – An overview of installation methods, including internal and external solid walls, cavity walls, roofs, suspended and solid floors and windows and doors.
6. Working Practices – Learn about the tools are used within retrofit projects and the importance of communication.

Following the completion, you can develop further skills through some of our other courses.
Abingdon & Witney College offer the Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Retrofit Advice, Level 4 Award in Domestic Retrofit Assessment, and Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management.

Qualification received
Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit. This is based on completing all 6 e-learning modules and sit a formal, invigilated multiple-choice exam.
Learning & method assessment
Six e-learning modules, each with its own knowledge quiz to gauge your progress. You can ask your tutor questions and get feedback by request. When you start your final module, you can book your attendance of a workshop where you can ask questions and get ready for the final multiple-choice exam.
User skills
Learners will gain an understanding of what domestic retrofit is, what it is supposed to achieve, what you need to know when working in the industry, and what to look out for when installing energy efficiency measures in homes.
