Level 3 Award in the Design Installation Commissioning and Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pump Systems near Abingdon
Recognised as the industry standard qualification in the installation of Air Source Heat Pumps, this City & Guilds evening course is designed to upskill existing heating engineers to allow them to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the electrification of heating. This is one of the essential courses to help enable installers move towards MCS accreditation and access Government Grants for their customers.
This course is delivered in our state-of-the-art Net Zero Skills Hub Renewables Training Centre equipped with fully functional air source heat pumps (ASHPs) offering a realistic learning environment. You will learn to specify, design and install Air Source Heat Pumps in domestic properties. This course includes an additional fourth day providing in-depth practical industry training from one of our partners.
The course will run over 6x3 hour evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you would like to add a optional fourth day to incorporate the manufacturers training this can be organised during the day.

• How a Heat Pump works – principles and components
• Insulation, Heat Losses and the effect of heating system design
• Domestic hot water, buffer tanks and solar coils
• Health and Safety
• Heat Pump Installation and Sizing
• Maintenance and fault finding

Entry criteria
• Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Plumbing, Heating/Ventilation, Gas or Oil or Gas Safe Registration or relevant industry experience
• Candidates will also need Water Regulations if not covered within one of the above qualifications

Qualification received
BPEC Level 3 Award in Air Source Heat Pump Systems
Learning and method assessment
Various styles of delivery ranging from interactive presentations and class discussion to hands on time with the heat pumps units and their associated components. The core 3-day course is assessed by both multiple choice open book exams and practical tasks. The fourth day is a technical CPD and practical workshop.
User skills
Upon completion of the course you will be able to confidently design, specify, install and maintain domestic and small commercial Air Source Heat Pumps.
