Who is this course for?
This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who have recently entered into the construction industry.

This qualification is also suitable for tradespeople who desire to develop or improve their knowledge of retrofit in the construction industry especially PAS2035/2038. It is also for those without retrofit experience (electricians, joiners, plumbers, plasterers, bricklayers etc) who may wish to work in the related field of retrofit professional roles such as a Retrofit Advisor, Retrofit Assessor, Retrofit Coordinator, Retrofit Designer, Retrofit Installer and Retrofit Evaluator.

What you'll learn
In our Level 2 Retrofit Certificate course, learners must achieve three mandatory units:

– 202 – Communication – Legislation and regulation
– 203 – Retrofit roles and responsibilities
– 204 – Principles and practices of retrofit (GLH is 120hrs)

By the end of the course, you will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead energy-efficient retrofit projects and make a positive impact on the built environment.

Course entry requirements
The entry requirements for our Level 2 Retrofit Certificate Course typically include:

Basic understanding of construction principles: Familiarity with fundamental concepts in construction, building materials, and building systems is beneficial.
Background in related fields: While not mandatory, individuals with backgrounds in construction, architecture, engineering, building maintenance, or related disciplines may find the course content more accessible.
Proficiency in English: Since the course materials and instruction are delivered in English, a sufficient level of proficiency in the language is required to participate effectively.
Computer literacy: Access to a computer with internet connectivity and basic computer skills are necessary for accessing course materials, completing assignments, and participating in online discussions or activities.
Commitment to learning: A strong commitment to learning and a genuine interest in sustainability and energy efficiency in the built environment are essential for success in the course.
These entry requirements ensure that participants have the foundational knowledge and skills needed to engage with the course content effectively and derive maximum benefit from the learning experience.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
Our Level 2 Retrofit Certificate Course is delivered in a classroom-based setting. This is a traditional approach that involves attending in-person classes at college, a day a week for 20 weeks.

In a classroom setting, a lecturer will deliver lectures, conduct discussions and provide hands-on exercises or case studies related to domestic retrofit assessment. This format allows for direct interaction with the lecturer and fellow learners.

All candidates must successfully complete three assignments for each of the three mandatory units and all written assessments will be conducted according to the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) Instructions for Conducting Examinations (ICE).

Future career and study opportunities

Completing our Level 2 Retrofit Certificate Course opens doors to careers as:
Energy Efficiency Consultants
Sustainability Coordinators
Retrofit Project Managers
Building Performance Analysts
Green Building Consultants.

Additionally, it provides a foundation for further study in sustainable design, building science, renewable energy systems, or green building certifications.

This qualification will enable learners to develop awareness of the retrofit industry and it is a starting point for career progression into retrofit where learners can further develop into professional roles linked to PAS 2035/2038.
